This 9 day itinerary covers the highlights of Central Java and Bali. Starting in the bustling capital city of Jakarta you will travel to the amazing Buddhist monument of Borobudur and the famous ninth century Prambanan temple compound that consists of 224 temples. From here a beautiful train journey takes you to Malang, a more laid back student town in East Java and starting point for your 4x4 Mt. Bromo adventure tour. Fly to Bali and discover Ubud, the cultural and artistic centre of Bali before enjoying the last night in the beach town of Sanur.

You will meet your guide on arrival, transfer and check-in to your hotel. During the drive your guide will provide an introduction to Yogyakarta, answer any questions you have, and make arrangements for the following day.

Visiting Borobudur at the early morning hours at sunrise is adding to the beauty of this temple. It is still in the cool morning hours and it the monument is not yet open for public visitors. This makes the visit all the more enjoyable to see this amazing Buddhist monument in full glory.
In the late morning you will check out and drive in 1.5 hours to Yogyakarta. On the way don’t miss to the visit Pawon & Mendut temples, which are located in the vicinity of the Borobudur and have historical connection with the main monument. You have the afternoon free to explore more of the city by bus, taxi or walking. Visit the markets and the batik and puppetry workshops of Yogyakarta. Malioboro Street, the main street of the Javanese capital, is busy from the morning till very late at night. This is the meeting place of students, tourists and street sellers.
Today you will visit the city by Becak (Pedicab). First you will visit the Sultan’s palace. From the palace you will walk to the water palace used for entertainment and meditation of the Sultan and his family. The beauty of the ancient architecture, its alleys and buildings make Taman Sari an interesting site to visit. One of the secrets in Taman Sari is the underground mosque where the sultan and his family would do their prayers.
Continue to visit the Prambanan temples located just outside of the city. This ninth century Prambanan temple compound consists of 224 temples. This Hindu temple complex is stunningly beautiful, and devoted to the gods Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Like Borobudur after hundreds of years of being forgotten, the temples were eventually rediscovered and restored to their former glory. You will visit this temple complex with a local guide.
In the morning you will leave Yogyakarta and depart to Malang, east Java and the journey will take round 8 hours. Enjoy the sight seeing along the way. Travelling by train is a great way to cover the long distances in Java.
With leafy, colonial-era boulevards and a breezy climate, Malang moves at a far more leisurely pace than the regional capital, Surabaya. It’s a cultured city with several important universities, home to a large student population. The central area is not too large and quite walkable.
Departing early in the morning from your hotel in Malang you will drive to Tumpang, where you change to a 4 WD jeep to cross the sand sea to the Bromo volcano. A flight of stair will bring you to the crater rim of Mt. Bromo. You will feel like walking on the moon surface. From Bromo you will explore the sand see area. Behind Bromo is the so called Teletubbies hill. A vast green savannah and blossom flowers will greet you, especially in the rainy season, and it is one of the great spots to photograph. Continue the journey back to Malang and stop en-route at a temple in Malang, from 14th century, named “Jago” temple. This temple was built to honour king Visnuwardhana, the third king of famous Singhasari kingdom. There after we will return back to Malang by midday.
The rest of the day you are free at leisure.
After breakfast you will drive to Surabaya airport for your flight to Ubud, Bali. From Malang to Surabaya will take around 3 - 4 hours. Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia and one of the trade centres. Upon arrival in Bali, you will have a transfer to Ubud, a centrally located village in Bali.
Enjoy the evening at leisure to stroll through this beautiful village.
Today you are free at leisure. Ubud is the cultural and artistic centre of Bali. The surroundings are great for hikes and the town itself has a wide range of restaurants and shops to enjoy your day at leisure. Biking, hiking, white water rafting and dance performances around Ubud give you plenty of options to spend your day actively.
After breakfast you will leave Munduk and drive to Sanur Area. On the way you will visit Ulun Danu, the temple on Lake Beratan. Ulun Danu Beratan temple is one of the most famous Balinese Hindu temple,
Continue to visit Taman Ayun in Mengwi. This temple complex boasts magnificent traditional architectural features throughout its courtyards and enclosures as well as expansive garden landscapes comprised of lotus and fish ponds.
In the afternoon you arrive for your overnight on the beach side of Sanur,
Today you will be transferred to Denpasar airport for you departure flight.
