This itinerary will lead you through some of the most stunning scenery China has to offer - deep valleys surrounded by mountain ranges, small villages between colorful fields, rolling hills and red fields and the world famous Stone Forest. 8 days in the South of China that will leave you speechless, and you camera full.
Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day will be at leisure.
After breakfast drive around 4.5 hours to Dongchuan. Visit Yuepuao, Huagou, Dushu upon arrival, enjoy the sunset at Luoxiagou Valley. Surrounded by mountains, Luoxiagou looks like a sunken depression from a distance. Traditional local villages adorn the colorful fields. A great place for photography blockbusters that you should not miss, a telephoto lens is recommended to shoot villages in the distance.
This morning, you should get up early for the 'Hit Horse Hole' (Damakan) Sunrise. A large red fields are spreading in the arms of continuous mountains at the skyline. Due to its local topographical advantage, Damakan is the best site to see a sunrise. Then visit Jinxiuyuan where has a vast expanse of many rolling hills with red fields. Continue with Qicaipo and a Hui Minority village. Drive to Stone Forest, where you will see lots of eroded needle-pointed rocks and top heavey towers jutting into the sky in a typical karst like formation.
Visit the Stone Forest, an extremely rare geological phenomenon dating back to 270 million years ago. It is a collection and gray limestone pillars split by rain water and eroded to their present fanciful forms. Then drive to Jianshui, one of the famous historical and cultural city in China. With a history of over 1,200 years, it still retains the traditional style of the original town. Upon arrival, visit the cultural heritages of Jianshui Ancient City. You will be impressed by its reputation as the "Museum of Ancient Buildings". Continue with the Zhu Family Garden which was built during Qing Dynasty by the Zhu brothers whose family was influential in the locality, the garden measuring 20,000 square meters took 30 years to complete and was orderly designed to include 42 courtyards. In ancient times accessing this amazing garden in this residential plot was forbidden but today tourists are free to enjoy its splendor.
First, head to the heart of Jianshui ancient city to visit the third largest Confucius Temple in China. Built with a traditional Chinese architectural style, Jianshui Confucius Temple enjoys a history of more than 700 years. Compared with the Confucius temples in other places of China, This place is very special as it is a display of the cultural mixture of the Han and the other ethnic groups of South Yunnan. Next you will drive to Tuanshan Village, which is the only intact cultural village of the Qing Dynasty existed currently in Yunnan. This village is a perfect place to learn about the culture and customs of the Yi ethnic minority as it was ever their habitation for centuries. You can visit the Shuanglong Bridge on the way and Zhang family garden in Tuanshan. In the afternoon, drive about 3 to 4 hours to Yuanyang, which is well known for its spectacular rice terraces.
This early morning, admire the splendid scenery of the sunrise in Duoyishu. As the reflections and shadows in the colorful water are constantly changing, the visual impact can be overwhelming. Afterwards, head to a local market the where you will see the local ethnic people dressed in their traditional clothes and their life style. After having lunch, drive to the Jingkou Hani Ethnic Village. The mushroom-like houses are undoubtedly the most distinctive in this village. Walk around here and learn about the culture and history of the Hani Minority with a visit to a Hani Showroom in the village. The last sight today is the Bada Scenic Area. the sunset here is so amazing as the incessantly changing colors will make you feel that you are in a magical kingdom.This late afternoon stop at the Tiger Mouth Village so you will catch the sunset time. Make sure your camera is ready while seeing the color of the terraces as though they have been painted by an artist. Drive back to the hotel.
Drive back to Kunming, visit Xingyi Mongolian Village on the way, it’s located on the foothill of Qilu Mountain on the west bank of Qilu River, is the only inhabited town of Mongolians in Yunnan.
